Gavriel Steinberg

8.23.03

TORAH NAME:  HaTamim Gavriel Zohar ben Faivel Chazak!

AGE:  I was born in 1985

LINEAGE:  4th generation Lithuanian (mother’s side) and Ukrainian (father’s side) Russian immigrant

GREW UP IN:  Miami, FL

HAVE BEEN FRUM SINCE: (2002) wearing Tzitzis and yarmulke since July, 2002 keeping Shabbos & kosher since August, 2002

HAVE BEEN IN YTM SINCE: June, 2003

THINGS I LOVE MOST ABOUT YTM:  the teachers and the teaching, the atmosphere of learning, the helpful support, the farbrengens (especially with Rabbi Lipskier), and the food (Miriam is an amazing cook).

MY RESPONSIBILITIES AT YTM CONSISTS OF:  taking care of the supply closet and keeping a strict seder (learning schedule).

I GAUGE MY TORAH STUDY AT WHAT LEVEL: still a beginner who’s building a solid foundation, but will be ready to really takeoff.

HOW DO I MAKE THE MOST OUT OF MY TIME:  keeping to the learning in and out of the official schedule and not schmoozing excessively or just hanging out too much.

WHAT DO I EXPECT TO GET OUT OF YTM:  a strong foundation to be able to pick up a sefer and learn it on my own and to learn how to be a Chassid.

WHAT SURPRISED ME THE MOST:  the students (they weren’t as crazy as I thought they would be) and how much there really is to learn and understand in Yiddishkeit.

HOW I AM BETTER THAN BEFORE:  I’ve learned that when I have a problem with someone else it’s really a problem with me and I now have the tools to work on myself and deal with these situations better.

A WORD TO the next supply manager:  always tell Rabbi Rashi when there aren’t enough garbage bags left.

A WORD TO Prospective students: if you are even slightly interested in learning Torah then come check it out. There is something here for everyone. Keep an open mind to learning and keep getting closer to Yiddishkeit.
